Finally, after several months of cloudy skies and smoke plumes, I was able to make it to the Outer Banks on a night clear enough to capture some stars. This image of the Oregon Inlet Life Saving Station under the Milky Way was shot just before astro-twilight so there is still a hint of purple in the sky. I wanted to wait until it was full dark but I just couldn't help myself.
